BrowserOS neovs Claude for Chrome
The extension asks nothing of you: same Chrome, same logins, same profile. That is its biggest advantage and its main constraint.
Claude for Chrome — Anthropic also call it Claude in Chrome — puts Claude in a side panel beside the page you are on, using your existing Chrome profile. It opens its own task tabs in a designated group, asks permission site by site, and connects to Claude Code, Cowork and Claude Desktop. It comes with Anthropic’s paid plans.
BrowserOS neo is a separate browser. Import your Chrome logins once, and any agent that speaks MCP works in its own tabs while your main browser stays yours.

If you only use Claude and only want one browser, install the extension. It is made by the people who make the model, it is already your profile, and nothing we offer beats that on convenience. The rest of this page is only worth reading if that is not quite you.
The one thing the table cannot show is prompt injection, which neither product has solved. Any agent reading web pages can be steered by those pages. Anthropic publishes its red-team work, ships classifiers and blocks high-risk site categories — more than we do. neo’s answer is different in kind: agents work in a browser that is not yours, and every session is recorded so you can replay it. That helps you notice a bad run, not prevent one.
Where Claude for Chrome is better.
No new browser. That is a real advantage and it beats everything we can offer on convenience: your Chrome, your profile, your extensions, your logins, nothing to import or keep in sync. Built by Anthropic for Claude, so there is no MCP wiring and no question of the integration lagging.
Its permission model is more granular than ours — per-site prompts, Manual, Auto and Skip modes, protected and prohibited actions, safety checks, and central allowlists for administrators. neo’s boundary is the application itself, which is coarser.
It is not a single-tab toy either: task tab groups, multi-tab, background and scheduled work, and Claude Code can record a task as a GIF, so a review trail is not unique to us. And Anthropic publishes its safety work openly, which is more than most of this category does.
Common questions
Does BrowserOS neo work with Claude?
Yes. Claude Code and Claude Cowork both connect to BrowserOS neo over MCP with a one-click install, as do Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Zed and GitHub Copilot. Choosing neo does not mean giving up Claude.
Do I have to give up Chrome to use BrowserOS neo?
No. It is a secondary browser that runs beside your main one. Your agents browse in neo with your imported logins; you keep using Chrome for your own work.
Is Claude for Chrome free?
It is included with Anthropic’s paid plans — Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise — rather than sold separately, and browser work draws on that plan’s shared usage limits. BrowserOS neo is free and open source.
Which is safer against prompt injection?
Neither is safe, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling something. Anthropic publishes its mitigations and remaining risk openly, and ships classifiers and site-category blocks we do not have. neo keeps agents in a separate browser and records every session, which helps you spot a bad run rather than prevent one.
